Serie A Preview: Are you not entertained?

Following their 2-0 win over Napoli last weekend, defending champions Juventus opened up a three point gap at the top of the table ahead of Week 9 of Serie A. The Bianconeri took their unbeaten run to 47 league games, and the question now is who can stop the Old Lady?

Catania v Juventus

After an even opening hour to the game in Turin, Juve were rewarded for their personnel changes as substitutes Martin Caceres and Paul Pogba scored the goals to secure all three points. Despite their slip-up in the Champions League in mid-week which saw them snatch a draw at Nordsjaelland, they remain the team to beat in Italy.

Juve face a tricky trip to Sicily this weekend, when they take on seventh placed Catania at the Massimino. However, the Sicilians have struggled historically in meetings between the two, picking up just one win back in December 2009 since their most recent promotion to Serie A. The Bianconeri will be confident of stretching their unbeaten record further.

| Catania – 5.00 | Draw – 3.50 | Juventus 1.70 |

Napoli v Chievo

Napoli will hope to bounce back immediately from their first defeat of the season, as they entertain Chievo at the San Paolo. Walter Mazzarri’s side are just a point ahead of Lazio and Inter, and haven’t got the greatest of records against their opponents. In the last five meetings, Chievo have three wins to Napoli’s two, while the last draw between the pair was a goalless stalemate when both were in Serie B in April 1999.

| Napoli – 1.40 | Draw – 4.25 | Chievo 8.00 |

Milan v Genoa

However, on Saturday night all eyes will be on San Siro as Milan take on Genoa. The Rossoneri have lost their last three in all competitions, while the away side are without a win in their last four. Genoa sacked Luigi Di Canio after last weekend’s defeat to Roma, a game in which the Grifone led 2-0 but ended 4-2 to the Romans. In his place is former Sampdoria and Juventus coach Gigi Del Neri, who will be eager to get off to a positive start.

In contrast, Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri is under intense pressure despite receiving reassurances from the club hierarchy his job is safe. The Italian giants are languishing in 15th place, above the relegation zone on head-to-head record while sitting a staggering eleven points off third place. Anything less than a win and it could be curtains for Allegri.

| Milan – 1.55 | Draw – 3.75 | Genoa – 6.25 |

Bologna v Inter + Fiorentina v Lazio

The race behind Juventus is shaping up to be a thrilling battle, with Lazio and Inter both locked on 18 points. While both will hope for a Napoli slip-up, they prepare for the weekend in great form. Inter travel to Bologna on the back of four consecutive league wins, while Lazio have won three on the bounce. The Biancocelesti arguably have the more difficult task, travelling to Florence to take on sixth placed Fiorentina who know a win would see them move within three points of their rivals.

| Bologna – 3.75 | Draw – 3.25 | Inter – 2.00 |

| Fiorentina – 2.20 | Draw – 3.25 | Lazio – 3.20 |

Roma v Udinese

Entertainment will undoubtedly be provided by Roma yet again this weekend, with the Giallorossi hosting Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico. Zdenek Zeman’s side have seen twenty eight goals in total in their seven games, discounting the three handed to them in the win over Cagliari. They have won their last two with Osvaldo taking his tally up to five goals for the season, while Udinese ended a three game run without a win with victory over Pescara last weekend.

| Roma – 1.60 | Draw – 4.00 | Udinese 5.00 |
