Europa League Betting Preview

Attention turns to the Europa League on Thursday night, as several European giants get their campaign underway dreaming of silverware at the end of the season. There are intriguing clashes across Europe to look forward to, with the Premier League sides all looking to get off to a positive start.

In the early kick-offs, Liverpool travel to Switzerland to take on Young Boys with a depleted squad. Manager Brendan Rodgers has left a number of key players at home in fear of sustaining any injuries, so the Reds’ are at 2.50 to return to Anfield with all three points.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has also decided to rest several players for the trip to face Portuguese side Maritimo. The Magpies’ will be recovering from their 2-2 draw at Goodison Park on Monday night, and have yet to win in Portugal in European competitions. They are at 3.40 to secure the win, with the ‘smart’ money on a draw at 3.25.

In perhaps the pick of the week’s fixtures, Tottenham welcome Lazio to White Hart Lane, with both sides harbouring hopes of winning the competition. Spurs’ boss Andre Villas-Boas has made no secret of his desire to take the Europa League seriously, but he faces a difficult opener. The Premier League side are at 1.90 to spoil the Roman party in London, with the Biancocelesti maintaining their perfect start to the season on Sunday with a 3-1 win at Chievo.

Having dazzled Europe last season in the Champions League, Napoli find themselves in UEFA’s sister competition this year and have what looks to be a straight-forward opening clash. They host AIK Solna at the San Paolo with three wins in three in the league so far, and are strong favourites at 1.35 to take maximum points. Elsewhere, fellow Serie A side Inter are also in action, taking on Rubin Kazan at San Siro. The Nerazzurri have had an inconsistent start to the season, especially at home where they have yet to win having suffered two defeats and a draw. However, they are worth a look at 1.80 to turn things around and secure a win.

In another early kick-off, Turkish giants Fenerbahce host Marseille as they look to make an impact in Europe. They will find it tough against their French opponents, who currently hold a perfect record domestically, with five wins in five. Marseille are at 2.90 to silence the home crowd.
