The Premier League is back!

Following the disappointment at Euro 2012, English football fans will be delighted that the Premier League will be returning to their screens this weekend. Manchester City will look to defend the title they so dramatically won on the last day of the season last year, with city rivals Manchester United and Chelsea amongst the chasing pack. Reading, Southampton and West Ham return to the Premier League, can they avoid an immediate return to the Championship?

On Saturday, Arsenal begin life without Robin Van Persie against Sunderland at the Emirates, after the Dutchman sealed a move to the red half of Manchester. Arsene Wenger has brought in reinforcements this summer, with Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla all arriving. The Gunners are 1.35 to get off to a winning start, with Podolski at 4.50 to be the first goalscorer on his debut.

Brendan Rodgers starts his Liverpool reign away at West Brom, who are now managed by former Reds assistant manager, Steve Clarke. Liverpool struggled in their pre-season games before cruising through their Europa League qualifier, they are at 1.95 to give Rodgers a perfect start.

The late kick-off sees Tottenham travel to Newcastle in what will be a tough opening day fixture at St. James’ Park. Spurs are likely to be without Luka Modric for the season kick-off as he awaits the green light for a move to Spain, but in Jan Vertonghen and Gylfi Sigurdsson they have bought well this summer. These two finished fourth and fifth last season, and an opening day draw is at 3.40.

Elsewhere, Paul Lambert takes his Aston Villa side to newly promoted West Ham, hoping to get off to a winning start. Villa will have Darren Bent back fit to spearhead their attack, and are 5.25 to be leading at half-time and full-time. Fulham and QPR host Norwich and Swansea respectively, while Reading start their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Stoke.
